Homeopathy comes from the Greek word ‘ homeo’ means similar and ‘ pathos’ means suffering. Homeopathy is a natural, alternative system of medicine, which was founded by the German physician Dr. Hahnemann in 1790. Dr. Hahnemann was a very famous physician of the then dominant school of medicine. He was a successful practitioner, but deep within he was very troubled by the limited amount of useful medical knowledge of his times. He realized that, the ‘medical science’ is not based on any fundamental scientific laws. And the theories on which the medicine of his time was based were vague and hypothetical. And the treatment often caused more harm than good. So he left his medical practice and started translation Work instead. After a lot of dedicated work he concluded that this is a general law and called it ‘Similia Similibus Curantur’ , i.e.; ‘Like Cures Like’ – the fundamental principle on which Homeopathy is based.
This law has been confirmed by people since then and has been found to be working well. This was a strong foundation and a lot of work has gone into further development of Homeopathy in the past 200 years. The work and growth of Homeopathy is still going on and at a very rapid pace. And as the physical basis of this science is becoming clear, it’s acceptance is growing.
It has micro doses of substances extracted from plant, animal or mineral kingdom. By the process of individualization these dynamic doses initiate the healing process which is completed by the persons immunity system itself. Homeopathy rests on the principle “Like Cures Like.” This means that a disease can be cured by a medicine that is capable of producing symptoms similar to those experienced by the patient in a healthy person. Therefore the most important part of homeopathic treatment lies in the lengthy interview which the homeopath conducts with the patient in order to dequesine all the symptoms which the patient is experiencing. The homeopath then decides which medicine to prescribe based on the closest match between the patient’s symptoms and the known symptoms elicited by the medicine in a healthy body.
People suffering from all kinds of illnesses, from arthritis to migraine, depression to ulcers, can be helped by homeopathy in regaining their health. Since different people react to the same illness in different ways, a homeopath approaches patients in a holistic manner. The physical, emotional and mental state of each person are connected. Homeopaths understand that symptoms of disease are evidence of the body’s natural immune systems response to healing itself and these clues are used to guide them when prescribing a remedy.
